ABOUT US

Galante Design Studio Exists To
TRANSFORM THE EVERYDAY INTO GRANDER GESTURES

There is a subset of people who attend – the ones who notice things – to the real things around them that others take for granted. And they do this with a keen introspection. Not content to simply focus on the what and the where, but the wonderment of the who, how, and why. The focus is on the interaction of the object at hand, and how it, ever so subtly, imparts its presence on the environment in which it is placed – in its space and in time. It’s the appreciation of the manufactured artifact mixed with the societal context that is the trigger. This mental attentiveness is borne of the appreciation of making – the skilled trade and craft of creating things by hand, and the studied discipline of designing structures that become an enduring presence on the landscape in which they reside.

Galante Design Studio was founded by Architect Ted Galante. He grew up in New York in a house that was focused on craft, making, drawing, and exploration. He learned woodworking, metalworking, technical drafting, and drawing at an early age which lead to architecture studies in high school and college. New York proved an open playground for exploring history and new ideas alike. Cavernous trips inside the Brooklyn Bridge Anchorage were as formative and exploring as was sketching the recently constructed Citi-Corp Building on Lexington Avenue. Ted’s skill opened paths to fabrication shops, design and architecture offices, gallery installations, and other career developing pursuits. Each shaped another tenet of Ted’s thinking which unfolds in his work today. Ted’s work has been recognized for design innovation, contextual sensitivity, and a unique application of space and light on exteriors and interiors alike. His work is a product of deep and ongoing explorations into art, craft, design, and technology in ways that enfold lifelong experience with a passion to find what is new and relevant. Although architecture is a service industry and practical applications are critical for the success of any building, his “seeker” attitude keeps the work at the forefront of thought and production, while also providing safe, welcoming, enclosure with an abundance of light and air in all spaces.
